Japanese Neoclassical Trio ‘sources’ Show Gothic Edge in BITE Music Video

sources Japanese band violin

Japanese neoclassical trio ‘sources’ have released an animated music video to ‘BITE’, a track from latest album Ittouryoudan. Featuring two violinists and a pianist, sources craft exhilarating instrumental pieces weaved around various ideas and exciting concepts. BITE’s composition is based around Gothic anti-hero Dracula and features aggressive, stabbing violin riffs, a dark and mischievous piano melody matched with souring and powerful hooks. The composition aims to capture the essence of the legend and his minions as they prowl the moonlit streets looking for the next victim.

BITE’s music video is sources’ first to be animated and was produced in collaboration with Osaka Animation College. The song was used as an insert song in the anime graduation project ‘Caldia’, about the unlikely paring of a werewolf trying to regain his heart and a girl who wants to save her parents. The music video also uses clips from this animation. Additionally, BITE was also the theme song to Japanese vampire themed theatre production Kyūketsuki BITE.

BITE is taken from new album Ittouryoudan, one of two albums released simultaneously last week. Violinist Ryotaro Kagaya comments, “‘Ittouryoudan’ is about things that should be cut off, while ‘Tsumugu’ is about things that should be pieced together. These albums were born in the midst of the corona virus pandemic. We wanted to express our strong desire to cut ourselves off and move forward, but also our desire to continue to protect and connect the world with care.”
