Japanese Metal Heroes Celebrate FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER's Debut Album

With Japanese operatic metal band FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER's debut album Anthems of the Resilient out digitally from 13th March and on CD internationally from 4 April, the release has been gathering praise from a number of iconic rock and metal musicians across Japan. Here are some of the highlights:

Yusaku (drummer of Phantom Excaliver) posing in front of two pirate ships

Yusaku: Phantom Excaliver comment:

The first message comes from Yusaku, drummer of Phantom Excaliver and a high-school friend of FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER's guitarist Takuma. Phantom Excaliver famously won the Wacken Open Air Metal Battle in Germany, representing Japan on the global stage. In honor of the band, Yusaku even made a pirate-themed profile picture for his comment:

"The pirates have landed!! This album hits like a wild ride through the Caribbean – I've never been, but I swear I can feel it. It's absolute fire. Crank it all the way up!!!"

THOMAS: SEX MACHINEGUNS comment:

Drummer THOMAS from the legendary Japanese metal band SEX MACHINEGUNS also shared his excitement:

"I see these guys 99% of the time I go to gigs, rock bars, or even Disneyland—there they are, handing out flyers for their band. I finally sat down and listened to the album they gave me and... HOLY HELL! BLEW ME AWAY – LIKE AN UPPERCUT INTO THE STRATOSPHERE! Now I totally get why we could hang out so easily in Disneyland!!!!

"Tracks 7-9 hit me with the ultimate trifecta of melody, riffs, and singalong madness – aka the "catchy early-death triple threat" – and I straight-up EXPLODED!!!!!

"Thank you!!! Let’s take another picture with Tinkerbell next time!!!!!"

iKA: Dos Quatro comment:

iKA, guitarist of Tokyo hardcore outfit Dos Quatro, brought her trademark energy to her message:

"Much love and respect! This is iKA. Congrats on your album release!!You guys have this incredible warmth that makes everyone around you happy! And let’s not forget the absolute chaos when you guys are boozing!

"My top, top favorite track is #4, 'Pirates of the Fathomless Sea'! I legit high-fived myself while listening – the song’s progression is insanely good!!

"From start to finish, the album is just non-stop victory after victory, so everyone about to listen, brace yourselves!!

"As a die-hard metalhead, I feel so damn lucky to have found such an amazing album. And seriously—Chihiro’s voice is so beautiful, I actually cursed my own scratchy vocals for not being born with a voice like hers!!

"FSW family!! From here on out, it’s nothing but MASSIVE RESPECT & MASSIVE LOVE!!!!!! Let’s all blast this album, learn every song, and go wild at the shows!!"

Eyegargoyle: AILIFDOPA comment:

Eyegargoyle from the mighty Japanese metal band AILIFDOPA brought his signature humor and flair:

"Oh my, would you look at that, these rascals went and dropped an album!! Now ain't that just the most glorious f*cking thing ever?! ZEHAHAHAHA!!!

"Listen up, people. I’ve been a diehard fan since the very beginning, back when they didn’t even have a bassist. I was out there, secretly headbanging in the crowd, catching every single early show (yeah, I’m flexin’ on you new kids – fight me).

"As for the album itself? It’s hands down top-tier in the Japanese symphonic metal scene (which, uh, I’m not even sure is an official thing, but screw it, they’re leading the charge).

"So when you head to the CD store, grab three copies under each arm and shove at least five between your legs – because this is a MUST-BUY.

Or else… TOOTH EXTRACTION!!! YOHOHOHO!! ZEHAHAHA!!!

"GO GET ‘EM, FATHOMO!!! Life is an adventure!! SAKE!!! SAMURAI EDGE!!!!!!"

Kael Hakase: Japanese Folk Metal comment:

Kael Hakase, vocalist of the prominent, aptly named Japanese Folk Metal band, praised the album's immersive experience:

"Huge congrats on the release!! This album turns your entire world into an adventure—whether you’re chilling at home or commuting to work, it instantly transports you.

"With themes spanning sci-fi, fantasy, pirates, and even samurai, it’s like an epic theme park ride, but fully loaded with face-melting metal riffs, an enchanting soprano voice, and grand symphonic soundscapes that hit you like a tidal wave.

"Here are my standout tracks:

  • 'POWER': A metalhead’s dream – kicking off with soaring twin melodies and diving into a folk-metal-inspired intro that just hits the ground running.

  • 'Samurai -The Proud Warrior-': This track’s fusion of beauty, sorrow, and speed is on another level — and are those rare Japanese lyrics? Absolutely breathtaking."

Satoru: MELT4 comment:

Satoru, frontman of MELT4, hailed the album as a defining release in the Japanese symphonic metal scene:

"I had the privilege of listening to it ahead of release, and I have to say—this might just be THE defining symphonic metal album of the Reiwa era in Japan...!

"Blending the intensity of metalcore with sweeping orchestral soundscapes and soaring vocals, every track strikes an incredible balance—and they all sound absolutely badass.

"Mark the release date in your calendars and don’t miss it!!"

Yusuke Kimura: MUJINA comment:

FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER’s former bassist Yusuke Kimura is now part of Japanese swing rock band MUJINA and also has some words to say:

“It’s finally here! Man, seeing Fathomless put out a full album is really something special.

"This album, "Anthems of the Resilient," was recorded in three separate sessions—and I got to play on two of them! I played on 'REVOLUTION', 'Pirates of the Fathomless Sea', 'REVENGE OF THE DEAD', 'Samurai -The Proud Warrior-', 'SEVEN DEADLY SINS' and 'PARADISO'.

"My own band, MUJINA, was working on our album at the exact same time, so I remember both of us just grinding like crazy to get everything done, haha.

"I also got to appear in two music videos! But man, shooting ‘REVOLUTION’ in a warehouse in the middle of summer, with no air conditioning, was absolutely brutal… Still, now that it’s finally coming together and about to reach everyone, I couldn’t be more excited!

"This album marks a whole new era for FATHOMLESS—and it’s not just for symphonic metal fans. I haven’t seen the new lineup live yet, but I’m definitely coming to check it out!"

Sharpen your blades, crack open your spellbooks, and hold onto your tricorne hats—the rascals of FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER are about to drop a sonic quest brimming with swashbuckling riffs and legendary tales. Hoist the anchor and join the adventure!

Forging a path through the realms of symphonic metal, FATHOMLESS SKYWALKER fuses cinematic grandeur with the raw power of heavy metal. Led by the spellbinding voice of Chihiro, the bone-crushing riffs of Takuma, and the thunderous drums of Tetsu, this trio crafts soaring anthems of war, destiny, and resilience.

Rising from Japan’s underground metal scene, they made their mark with 'Pirates of the Fathomless Sea', storming to #4 on Japan’s iTunes Metal Ranking in 2024, followed by the top-ten success of 'SEVEN DEADLY SINS'. Now, the saga continues with their debut album, Anthems of the Resilient.

With orchestral arrangements by Freddy (SERENITY IN MURDER) and guest appearances by top metal bassists, the album has already won praise from Japan’s metal elite. THOMAS (SEX MACHINEGUNS) calls it “an uppercut into the stratosphere,” while Eyegargoyle (AILIFDOPA) declares, “This is the best in Japan’s symphonic metal scene!”
