FEMM Release Radical Drug 'Mental Health' with New Music Video
FEMM went right ahead and expressed everything they wished to in the girls’ anthem 'Fxxk Boyz Get Money', which conveyed a powerful message and drew attention of influencers worldwide including Western cities, South America and Asia enough to have their 1st album Femm-isation in TOP 10 chart of World Albums category on Billboard Chart in the US, and Best Indies Album of HMV nationwide, in the UK.
Their second album Tokyo Girls Anthem released in December last year, guested world known producers Boys Noize, known for his work with A$AP Rocky and Frank Ocean, as well as Rina Sawayama cohort Danny L Harle and DaBaby/Lil Uzi Vert collaborator Star Boy.
'Mental Health' was a song that particularly stood out among them.
This Dark Neo Trap song was cowritten with FEMM themselves, their long time friend Yup’in and Radical Hardcore Clique who are best known internationally for their Gagaku influenced style of Hip Hop.
The music video for this song, a visualisation of a thick darkness, was re-cut today.
FEMM – Mental Health featuring Yup'in
This song can be perceived as the culmination and the deepest of FEMM’s works, who was one of the first to explore “DARKPOP” which has been under the spotlight in modern music. Their straight forward yet sharp stinging lyrics spell out the dark side of two-sidedness in human beings, mashed with chopped-up future bass-like Gagaku sounds (although they sound completely different to ears) are delicately uneasy, and portray the mental unbalanced-ness.
On the other hand, the way it does not carry any sense of vulnerability and the constant shooting self-assertion, is almost a soothing salvation. It speaks for the audience and leaves them in exhilaration of “thank you for voicing out!”, to phrase in words.
The video that visualises this upright musical work has turned out to be… the chaos, of the chaotics. A black light, which is impossible to exist in reality, is a modern expression made possible virtually in higher dimension of the 3rd world. It is definitely worth a look.
A three-sided box surrounded by LED panels utilizes a technology called Perspective, and represents a closed room hidden in the depths of the heart, in which FEMM and Yup'in themselves express the negative emotions that rage like wild bullets within their souls.
International artist YAMACAHNG’s intentional excessive usage of laser grid, also an internationally renowned visual collective “BRDG”’s highly concentrated and heavy computer graphics, as well as “GENDAI” with “UNVISION” the world champion of “WORLD OF DANCE”’s sick dance moves are something to look out for in the video.
A radical drug. This is not an exaggeration, and is FEMM's unique counter-product to modern darkness only FEMM can provide. The bitter taste of this drug will give certain buoyancy to the sinking minds.
