TOMOMI (SCANDAL) Takes Over the JPU PLAYLIST
TOMOMI, bass player of Japan's all-girl rock band SCANDAL has selected some of her favourite songs for the JPU RECORDS PLAYLIST on Apple Music and Spotify – a series of ever changing playlists of great music from Japan and beyond, hand selected by JPU Records' band members or staff.
TOMOMI's selections include a bunch of fantastic hip hop, rock and city pop tracks, such as those from Yumi Matsutoya (who has had 21 number one albums...!), hip hop band IN-SIST from Osaka, and also takes and includes recent viral hero Vaundy with Tokyo Flash, played over 7.5 million times on YouTube since September 2019. The latter's video makes us miss Tokyo, as does TOMOMI's inclusion of guitar-pop-rockers GRAPEVINE. During our last trip, the vocalist tried teaching us how to sing enka at a bar on the outskirts of Tokyo at 3am. Good times!
We've kept the order of the songs in the same order that TOMOMI supplied them, and then added some of SCANDAL's latest tracks. The Apple Music playlist is slightly more complete than Spotify due to licensing.
SCANDAL's latest single Living in the city was written and recorded by TOMOMI while Tokyo was under a State of Emergency. Its video, filmed remotely from each band member's house, is also out now.
Don't forget to subscribe to the playlist to automatically get the new list when it goes live later next month with songs chosen by another member of a JPU Records band.
