This year has seen Sumire Uesaka play the iconic role of Lum in the TV anime Urusei Yatsura which began airing in Japan from 13 October 2022, as well as another famous figure from anime; Neko Musume in the stage play of classic GeGeGe no Kitaro. And now, the talented voice actress and singer continues to make strides with her fifth album ANTHOLOGY & DESTINY, released digitally today and out physically outside of Japan from JPU Records from 11 November.
In a video message recorded for international fans Sumire Uesaka explains that this album is an ANTHOLOGY about the DESTINY of girls. Sumire Uesaka wrote 9 out of the 15-tracks included in the conceptual work, and these see Sumire team up with a creative team featuring some of Japan and Asia’s strongest names. Some of these unique figures include Tetsuji Hayashi, a pioneer in the city pop genre whose songs have accumulated hundreds of millions of streams; Korean producer and DJ Night Tempo, responsible for triggering the recent city pop boom; and KanoeRana, a singer-songwriter who has become one of Japan’s hottest music personalities with Japan’s Generation Z through her video content on social media platforms such as TikTok.
To celebrate the release of ANTHOLOGY & DESTINY, costumes worn by Sumire Uesaka and lifesize cut-outs of the star are on display at a number of shops in Japan, including animate’s main store in Akihabara, AKIHABARA Gamers and more.
A new lyric video has also been released today for the track ‘Car♡Wash♡Girl’, a song produced with Kiyoshi Ryujin. The video was produced by OTORIO Inc., a creative team responsible for a number of striking music videos, including those of DECO*27. The video’s super cute and cool illustration that capture’s the song’s heroine is by Cherico, a popular illustrator from the world of vocaloid. The track has also been selected for a number of big DSP playlists, including Spotify's official Anime Now (over half a million likes) and track four in Apple Music's official New In: Anime playlist.
