One Eye Closed – Abel
Here it is, the second EP from Tokyo's rising mixture-rock act One Eye Closed. Following on from their blinding debut release Cain is three-track EP Abel. The new Japanese band's sound evolved further with this release and sees the quartet release their first music video to feature its members "in the flesh" for opening track 'Monster'.
One Eye Closed is made up of bilingual singing talents of REI, effortlessly able to mix soaring vocal hooks with rap and r'n'b influences; the mysterious and creative guitar prowess of 'none'; the energy of funky bass groover Yasu; and the dynamic power of Kay on drums.
Vocalist REI comments; "Abel, focusing on themes of mental illness, anxiety, loss, and hopelessness, follows where the story was left off from our first EP Cain with 3 tracks: 'Monster', 'Fire', and 'Dear'. While undergoing a battle with inner demons, the main character must choose between acceptance or fighting off said demons. 'Monster' represents the struggle with inner demons and its effects on oneself and those around. 'Fire' is the conversation between human and the demon within. 'Dear' represents the fatigue that comes with a long inner struggle. The story will be continued in the next One Eye Closed EP.
