FEMM Drop 'Outta the Clouds' Music Video, from New Album 'Tokyo Ex Machina'

FEMM Outta the Clouds Jpop mannequins duo

New Tokyo's sentient mannequin duo FEMM have released new music video for 'Outta the Clouds'. The track is an electronic, groovy R&B number shaped by RiRi and LuLa's feelings through the pandemic. It's also the second new music video to be released from latest album Tokyo Ex Machina.

'Outta the Clouds' sees FEMM work with producer Woo Min Lee, responsible for popular tracks from Kpop acts TWICE, ITZY and NiziU. The music video was directed by Masashi Muto, and is the first time the Japanese filmmaker has worked with FEMM, having previously directed videos for Vengaboys, Kelly Rowland and Ayumi Hamasaki. It also sees FEMM switch the pop and girl-like aesthetics found in previous video 'We Got Each Other' in favour of more mature, beauty oriented hair and makeup styles.

The video visually represents the song's lyrical message; once the invisible walls (represented by acrylic shields and vinyl curtains) are gone, the fog will clear and there will be a brighter future.

Latest album Tokyo Ex Machina was released suddenly at the start of 2022 and features world renowned creatives from Europe to Asia, such as Jenna Andrews who has worked on BTS's 'Butter', One Direction, John Ryan who has worked with Maroon 5 and Rita Ora, as well as Danny L Harle who has worked with Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama.

The album's lead track 'We Got Each Other' was produced by Kool Kojak known for his work with Doja Cat and more. Its music video shocked agents (a term for FEMM's fans) around the world when FEMM smiled for the first time, even if it was just part of their dream...

About FEMM:

A rap duo consisting of two mannequins with minds, RiRi and LuLa. Their most popular work 'Fxxk Boyz Get Money' was perceived as a girls' anthem with extreme messages among teenagers in the US, and went viral among international influencers and "Agents" (FEMM's fans) in Europe, South America as well as Asia. They are no strangers to the Internet culture, and were one of the first to incorporate the revival movement which is taking the world by storm. They released 80s / 90s J-POP REVIVAL with a Vapourware approach which was highly acclaimed. In 2020, they released a 6 track EP 404 Not Found (a status code used when a website cannot be found on the internet) with the concept "A brand new sound that is yet to exist". Not only among Agents, but they have gained worldwide attention with their dark styled aggressive take on the "Hyper Pop" sound.

About FEMM

Rap duo RiRi and LuLa are two mannequins with a will of their own. Their signature song, "Fxxk Boyz Get Money," was a girl's anthem with a poignant message that was supported by American teens and quickly spread to Europe, South America, and Asia by agents (the name of FEMM's fans) including global influencers. As a result, their debut album "Femm-Isation" made it to the "Top 10" of the U.S. Billboard chart "World Albums". In the U.K., they were selected as one of the "6 Acts To Watch in 2016" by the Huffington Post and as the "Best Indies Album" by all HMV stores, opening up a new decade in the female rap scene both at home and abroad. They are also well versed in internet culture, and was one of the first to start the revival that is now sweeping the world, releasing the Vapor Wave interpretation of  "80's-90's J-Pop Revival". In 2020 they released "404 Not Found", a six-song EP with the message of "a brand new sound that doesn't exist anywhere else (yet)". This led to  an “upgrade” and launched a new era for the iconic duo as FEMM 2.0.

Their most recent album Tokyo Girls Anthem was released in December 2021, packed with a wide variety of rap tracks made in collaboration with globally active hip-hop producers such as Boys Noize and Star Boy. FEMM then released their latest album, Tokyo Ex Machina in January 2022. The artist’s aggressive musicality, which is linked not only to their agents but also to the dark world view and the global trend known as "Hyper Pop," has garnered deep and sharp attention from both domestic and international media.
