SCANDAL Announce 2027 Breakup
Japan's record breaking band SCANDAL have announced that they will reach their final chapter on 21 August, 2027. The news follows their sold-out 20th anniversary performance at Osaka Jo Hall, a venue very close to the hearts of the members. Following the performance, SCANDAL made the following announcement on social media:
On August 21, 2026, SCANDAL celebrated its 20th anniversary with the "SCANDAL 20th Anniversary Live 'Chapter 20' at Osaka-Jo Hall."
Osaka-Jo Hall is the stage the four of us dreamed of standing on when we had just formed the band. Over the years, we have celebrated many important days on the stage here at Osaka-Jo Hall.
On this important day marking 20 years as a band, we are proud to be standing here once again, still the same four members we were back then.
To everyone who came to the venue, watched the livestream, and celebrated our 20th anniversary with us, we would like to express our deepest gratitude.
After this performance, there is something the four of us would like to tell you.
Our 20-year journey as SCANDAL will reach its final chapter on August 21, 2027.
Over these years, we have traveled throughout Japan and around the world. Through the places we have been able to visit, the people we have met, and the many experiences we could only have had by living our lives as SCANDAL, the four of us feel that we have truly done all that we could together.
Deciding how to bring an end to a band that has been together for this long was truly difficult. But after talking it over many times, the four of us eventually came to this conclusion.
As our final journey together, we will tour all 47 prefectures of Japan starting this October, and on August 21, our 21st anniversary, we will hold a solo concert at Yokohama Arena.
Over this final year together, we'll cherish every show and every day, and we'll keep playing as the four of us until the very last moment.

HARUNA's message:
I’m sorry that this announcement came so suddenly and caused you all to worry.
After talking things through many times, the four of us came to this decision together.
The life I’ve spent as part of SCANDAL, and all the time I’ve spent thinking of all of you, has been incredibly special to me — an irreplaceable treasure.
Through the happy times and the difficult times, you’ve always been there supporting us. Looking back on these past 20 years, and feeling it once again at our recent show at Osaka-Jo Hall, I realise just how fortunate I am.
Thank you so much for giving so much love to us, to our music, and to our live shows.
I’ve always loved SCANDAL MANIA, I love you now, and I’ll continue to love you from here on too.
Over this next year, I’m going to give everything I have as SCANDAL’s vocalist and devote myself wholeheartedly to bringing our music to people all across Japan. Please let me share all the different feelings I have with you directly.
I hope you’ll stay with us until 21 August, 2027.
MAMI's Message:
To everyone who came all the way to Osaka-Jo Hall, and everyone who watched the livestream, thank you so much!
I’m soooo happy that we got to spend the day of our 20th anniversary together with all of you at Osaka-Jo Hall. I had such an amazing time, from the bottom of my heart!
Thank you for pouring so, so, so much love into this band called SCANDAL.
And, as we announced, SCANDAL will bring our activities to an end on August 21, 2027.
I’m sure there are all kinds of opinions about it, and I know we’ve probably left you with all kinds of emotions, but this is our “resolve”, something the four of us decided after properly talking everything through together with everyone at our management office.
Everything we want to say is there in the statement in the image, so I’m not going to say anything more than that.
Because! It’s not over yet!
Our 47-prefecture tour starts in October!
Next, we want to take all of the gratitude we feel and bring it directly to all of you.
We’ve been getting ourselves ready, both mentally and physically, for our 20th anniversary, but now I’m going to fire myself up all over again and give it everything I’ve got to make this next year the absolute best it can be.
If you have the time, please come and see us live!
We’ll be waiting for you!
We’re gonna make soooo many memories together!!!
TOMOMI's Message:
After talking it over again and again, we were finally able to say to each other, “We’ve given it everything we had.” Being able to fully embrace and affirm the history we’ve created up to this point fills me with a deep sense of pride.
To put it simply, we were young girls who made our debut in school uniforms, using our youth as our weapon. But we kept making music for 20 years, and simply by never giving up on being the four of us, we became the longest-running all-female band in the world.
We’re now standing in a future that I’m sure none of us could ever have imagined.
The reason we’ve been able to keep running all this time is because of SCANDAL MANIA throughout Japan and around the world; all the staff who have always supported us by our side; everyone in the media who has helped us along the way; our families and friends; and the three other members who have always remained beside me, through every single moment — both when my heart was shattered and things were painful, and when I was so happy I wished those moments could last forever.
It’s all thanks to you!
Thank you, truly!
No matter how many times I say thank you, it could never be enough.
From here, we’re setting out on a journey of about one year to bring 20 years’ worth of gratitude to all of your hometowns.
I want to burn every single sight into my memory.
To me, SCANDAL is the greatest treasure of my life.
Please stay with us until the very end.
I love you!
RINA's Message:
It feels strange to think that the day has come for us to start heading towards our final goal.
Over this next year, I’ll keep working hard so that I can remain someone capable of seeing it through and giving you truly genuine live shows, with nothing fake about them.
I want you to lend us your strength so that we can run all the way to the finish together.
Right now, just thinking about it still makes me feel as though my heart and body are being torn apart, but I think that only shows just how much this band is a part of who I am.
I’m going to cherish this time ahead, carrying love, courage and gratitude with me.
