BACK-ON have dropped continual high-energy bangers in a career that’s spanned over a decade-and-a-half. Their tracks have been used in some of anime’s biggest franchises, including GUNDAM, Initial D and FAIRY TAIL. They’ve performed around the world, with their show in Houston USA becoming the official music video to one of their top tracks. They even write and produce music for several of Japan’s most respected and biggest selling artists, one such track is opening theme ‘Trust・Last’ from KAMEN RIDER GEATS, performed by Koda Kumi x Shonan no Kaze and streamed millions of times on YouTube and Spotify. Now, they reach another milestone by recording their first song as BACK-ON to feature in the popular live action TV phenomenon too.
‘Chair’ features aggressive rock riffs, soaring vocal hooks and dramatic Japanese-English rap jabs and was written with KAMEN RIDER GEATS in mind. The masked superhero live action TV series KAMEN RIDER first began airing in the early 70s and quickly became become a Japanese pop culture icon. Its distinctive style, outfits, and explosive action scenes would go on to inspire TV, films and comics for generations to come.
KAMEN RIDER GEATS sees the arrival of a survival game known as the Desire Grand Prix, where players must protect the city from a mysterious enemy called Jyamato. ‘Chair’ perfectly complements the high-octane action on screen musically and lyrically. Nods to the series have been cleverly sprinkled throughout the lyrics, while the track is soaked in Japanese rock swagger and positive vibes that music lovers not familiar with the series can easily enjoy it too.
BACK-ON’s MC and co-lyricist TEEDA comments, “The track’s intense sound combined with the storyline and the flow of the rap lyrics makes it sound like a martial arts scene in action. I really like that you can imagine a battle scene just by listening!”
BACK-ON’s guitarist and composer KENJI03 adds, “‘Chair’ is about the conflict and determination you need in a game to be the last person standing. The word ‘Chair’ came to mind because of the Japanese term “Ōza no isu”, “Ōza” meaning throne, or to be the winner / champion, and “isu” meaning chair or position / place. I can’t wait to hear it in KAMEN RIDER GEATS!”
